The ultimate PvE guide for Hunters. Find out about the best spec, optimized rotations, macros and desirable gear to become the best DPS Hunters in Classic WoW.
Greetings, hunter in training. Welcome to the temple of agility!
First of all, there are three things you need to know about hunters:
In raids, the hunter’s main job is to pull packs and bait them to tanks, as well as crowd control (Ice Trap or kiting). Of course, your job is also doing big DPS.
Hunters start fights, preferably with a rank 1 Tir des arcanes that will do very little damage, allowing the tank to take aggro very easily.
Regardless of aggro range (mostly linked to levels), some mobs are linked together, and attacking one will make the others join the fight.
They can be linked for 3:
Think about this when pulling: a patrol of beasts will not necessarily pull the nearby group of humanoids. However, if they’re of the same faction, you will definitely pull them all.
You can kite in multiple ways, depending on the mob and whether or not he’s vulnerable Trait de choc.
First case: He is! Congratulations! You just need to keep up the debuff as well as aggro, and run around.
Second case: He is not. More complicated, you need to keep your threat up and run with Aspect du guépard on. Careful not to get hit or you will be dazed.Either way, a Piège givrant between you and the mob/boss before the pull will help.
Use an addon to be warned when an enemy enrages, use a macro to warn your raid and your fellow hunters that it’s their turn to cast the next « tranq-shot », depending on a pre-established order. Alternatively, use voice chat./cast Tranquilizing Shot
First, your pet has to look great and like you. Well, if he likes you it’s good enough. Your pet will do 125% more damage if he likes you. Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to get your pet to like you, just give him food!
Note that different types of pets have different characteristics and skills. The best pet for raiding is the Worg Bloodaxe that you will find in Lower Blackrock Spire (LBRS), see below.
The reason for using Worg Hache-sanglante is that it is the only pet with a rank 4 Hurlement furieuxHere is a table showing the difference in stats of the various pet types.
For 15 years now a war is being waged between the Marksmanship Survival and specializations. Beast Mastery, meanwhile, allows you to farm open world mobs extremely fast. Don’t worry though, once you know what you’re doing you’ll be able to crush the game’s challenges. Fun is more important than theorycrafting.First off, these specs will have to be double-checked when Classic release, they’re susceptible to change depending on how you like to play, else everybody would have the exact same character and we’d only talk about math, graphs and stats, which would suck the fun out of the game.
Marskmanship hunters are the most common archetype in PvE. Their DPS is excellent and they buff their allies’ attack power in a 45m radius with : Aura de précision.
Mandatory talents are:
Survival Hunter is a good DPS (believe me!) but only after reaching 350 agility (so not before phase 4 at least) because you lose out on hunters’ main asset: Aura de précision
Survival is a fun spec, focused on critical strikes and trap usage. Because of this, it is highly dependent on agility. Survival has excellent crowd control.Cette spécialisation PVE est basée sur votre agilité (dégâts purs comme taux de critique) et augmente votre capacité de contrôle des foules.
Mandatory talents are:You could drop Flèche de dispersion for one point of Barrage to gain 5% Multishot damage.
Slow weapons are ideal to minimize the amount of autoattack clipping. For example, if you start casting Visée 2 seconds before your autoattack, the auoattack will be clipped.
Indeed, autoattacks have a hidden cast time (unless you’re using the Swing-timer, mandatory if you want to be optimized) that is dependent on your weapon speed (and attack speed bonuses).
Flèches multiples also has a short cast time which can cut your autoattack, so be careful with it as well.
The more often you clip your autoattacks, the lower your DPS will be. Timing is essential to maximize your DPS. You can listen to or watch your character, and as soon as you hear/see the arrow leaving the bow, you can cast Visée or Flèches multiples.
Beyond that, the rotation is the same for both specs.
This cycle lasts for roughly 9 seconds depending on your weapon and your attack speed:
Here are the stat priorities for PvE Hunters.
1 Agility = 2 Ranged Attack Power and 0.018 % Critical Strike Chance (53 agi = 1%)
1 Stamina = 10 Health points1 Intel = 15 mana
You can find here lists of the best possible equipment your Mage can use in PvE thanks to our « Best-in-slot » tool belowHere is the BIS gear for Hunter
You mostly want to increase your critical strike chance via Agility.A critical strike causes 230% of normal damage thanks to Coups mortels. The first point of critical strike chance on your character sheet increases your DPS by 1,3% but past 25% it increases it by less than 1%. This is why there’s a “soft cap” at 25%. Don’t worry too much about critical strike chance however, just get agility.
You absolutely need to be hit capped 9% hit chance unless Dwarves with rifles or Trolls with bows who only need 6%.
Favor a low attack speed weapon (around 3.0) so your autoattacks don’t get clipped by your skills. Using a Carquois en cuir de harpie this 3.0 speed is lowered to 2.61.N’oubliez pas que votre ou vos armes de corps à corps ne vous servent quasiment exclusivement qu’à vous buffer, privilégiez donc leurs statistiques et enchantements à leurs DPS !
Consumables are extremely important in Classic WoW, especially in the beginning or when a new raid is released. Alchemy and Cooking bring a lot of value to a raid; we recommend you follow our guides to level these professions. You will find below a non-exhaustive list of some necessary consumables for raiding.
Weapon oil :
There are many more consumables that can be useful for specific encounters or hard bosses.
