1. Shaman class overview

Shaman is overall a pretty good leveling class. high mobility, kiting potential, and excellent group utility It's very versatile with both good melee attacks and great spells, as well as self-healing and a plethora of buff and utility totems.

Horde PVE : Troll

Berserking is an incredibly powerful cooldown for casters, healers, and Warrior tanks in PvE situations.

If you want to play Enhancement during all your leveling : then you must choose Orc for Blood fury and the stun reduction.

For Elemental or Restoration in PvE : Troll is the best out of all the races. Berserking is really powerful and allows you to quickly cast damaging spells or heals. Moreover, you gain 5% damage against beast with the troll passive, and during your leveling, you will fight a lots of beasts, so its non-negligible.

3. General Tips for leveling as a shaman

Here are some tips to progress quickly during your leveling as shaman in classic wow.


  • Lightning Shield is your most efficient DPM (Damage Per Mana) spell and its usage should be prioritized when spending mana in bursts.
  • Start building a Healing / Spirit Set Early. Keep pieces with high Intellect or Spirit that you can use when Healing or when out of combat to reduce the downtime allocated to regeneration.
  • Drop your Totems in such a way that you can get value from them against multiple mobs. Replacing Totems for every single mob you kill will slow you down.
  • It is a good idea for any class to keep a few pieces or even a Spirit Set in your bags and to swap with Outfitter between pulls.
  • Out of your Totem Class Quests, the most frustrating is the Water Totem quest, so consider skipping it for a few levels.
  • For max burst you can place a Fire Nova Totem then time your spells so it pops when the mob is in range.
  • If you plan to ride for 14 seconds or longer upon finishing your 3 second mount cast time, use your mount

Earthbind Kiting :

From level 6 onwards (when you get Earthbind Totem Rank 1) you can start Earthbind Kiting, using Earthbind Totem to Slow Enemies by 50% (= R3 Hamstring Warriors obtained at 54) weaving in and out of their hit box to  mitigate damage. If a Mob has 2.0 Attack Speed and you have a Weapon with 3.8 = 47.4% Damage Reduction!

Astuce : TODO

Mobs out in the open world generally have a higher movement speed and higher attack speed than you. If you were to stand still and trade hits with a mob back and forth you may end up trading 1 of your Auto attacks for 2+ of theirs.

If executed properly, proper Earthbind Kiting allows you to trade 1 hit for 1 hit with a target, drastically reducing your damage taken while not reducing your damage at all since you are monitoring your natural auto attacks with the swing timer.

5. Shaman macros

Start Attack Macros :

Start Attack Macros are important so you don’t have to manually right click mobs to attack them. You bake them into your abilities as a macro so even if you don’t have enough mana to use an ability such as Stormstrike you will still attack the target.

6. Best spec for leveling as a shaman

To begin with, you start in Elemental spec because you will always use your fire totem during your leveling, it’s the skill with the best DPM (damage per mana used), so buffing that spell by 15% is really important for early leveling.

If you have a Slow 2H Weapon, use Rockbiter as it scales better.

8. Best gear for leveling as a shaman

Here is our advice to choose your gear during leveling:

Enhancement : Agility > Strength > Stamina > Intellect > Spirit

Agility’s effect on a Shaman:

  • 20 Agility is equal to 1% Crit and 1% Dodge.

Agility will allow you to critically strike and to dodge enemy attacks more often, so if you are lucky you will be able to quickly kill the monsters. If you need a little more health, focus stamina to be more tanky.

Strength’s effect on a Shaman:

  • Increases Attack Power by 2 per 1 point of Strength.

Stamina’s effect on a Shaman:

  • Increases Hit Points by 10 per 1 point of Stamina.

Elemental : Spell damage / int / crit

  • Intellect: Increases Mana by 15 Points per 1 point of Intellect.
  • Spirit: Increases Out of Combat Health / Mana Regen Rate.

Once you reach level 40, you'll have enough mana to fight a lot of mobs without having to regen your mana, so you have to focus first on spell damage, then intellect to get a lot of mana and finally the critical rates.
